Speaking within the dugout of the Nice American Ballpark in Cincinnati, Ohio, Kapler mentioned, "I do not plan on coming out for the anthem going ahead until I feel better in regards to the route of our nation."

"I am not okay with the state of this nation. I wish I hadn't let my discomfort compromise my integrity. I wish that I may have demonstrated what I learned from my dad, that whenever you're dissatisfied together with your country, you let it's known via protest. The home of the courageous ought to encourage this."
