NEW YORK - The final New York City public pay phone was removed on Monday morning.

Town started eradicating payphones in 2015 and replacing them with public Wi-Fi hotspots.

The removing marks the end of the payphone period within the city aside from some non-public payphones on public property and four everlasting full-length so-called Superman cubicles.

LinkNYC, which runs the Wi-Fi hotspots, says the community will likely be expanded so as to add 5G functionality this summer season.
