A Russian reconnaissance plane briefly violated Sweden’s airspace on Friday, Swedish protection officers stated on Saturday, as the Scandinavian nation ponders a bid for NATO membership after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
“A Russian AN-30 propeller aircraft violated Swedish airspace on Friday night,” the Swedish defense ministry stated in a press release, adding that its teams had adopted the incident and photographed it.
The ministry stated the plane was flying east of Bornholm, a Danish island in the Baltic, earlier than it headed toward Swedish territory.
“It's completely unacceptable to violate Swedish airspace,” public television SVT quoted Protection Minister Peter Hultqvist as saying.
“This motion is unprofessional and given the overall safety state of affairs very inappropriate. Swedish sovereignty must at all times be revered.”
