Parent with concealed weapon by chance shoots self whereas at Arlington ISD college, police say

Arlington police said Duff Elementary College was positioned on lockdown for a time Thursday after a mum or dad with a hid weapon had his gun by chance go off, hitting the father or mother in the leg.

ARLINGTON, Texas - Arlington police stated Duff Elementary School was positioned on lockdown for a time Thursday after a mum or dad with a hid weapon had his gun unintentionally go off, hitting the father or mother in the leg.

The varsity had early release and college students were launched at the deliberate time of 12:10 p.m.

In response to police, the father or mother, recognized as 55-year-old Anthony White, dropped his gun and by chance shot himself. His harm was not critical.

The school district stated White was contained in the building, near the foyer space, and not within the hallway near college students when the gun went off.

Police and faculty officials said there was no menace made and the father or mother didn't have "malicious intent."

No students or employees have been injured. The dad or mum was taken to an area hospital after being shot within the leg. 

Arlington Police Chief Al Jones said after White was released from the hospital, he was arrested and charged with unlawful carrying of a weapon in prohibited locations and discharge of a firearm in sure municipalities.

Within the two days because the Uvalde mass college capturing, there have been 5 circumstances in North Texas related to guns brought to schools or threats made.

Arlington mother and father stated their minds instantly considered the worst when they were notified.

No mum or dad ever wants there to be a purpose for them to get a textual content message saying their kid's school is on lockdown.

But since this week's lethal shooting at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, they cannot help but assume the worst when they do.

"When I received the text message, I was like, ‘Oh my God, something is going to occur.’ I was shocked," guardian Karima Rasheed said.

While most instances, lockdowns are solely drills college students have to participate in, Rasheed's son, Rami, said that knowing what happened earlier this week made this lockdown completely different. 

"I started seeing my classmates starting to cry and our instructor obtained a notification on their phone saying somebody was within the building," he stated.

Guns aren't allowed on school property, and parents FOX 4 spoke with said even if it was a mistake, the timing is just terrible.

"What are we going to do? They should go to highschool, and clearly, statistically, it is unlikely to occur, but you never need to be the one statistic. What if it is your children?" Matthew Mitchell stated.

Mitchell lives throughout the street from Duff Elementary. His daughters go to another Arlington college. 

"I’m terrified, absolutely terrified. I’ve acquired twin six-year-olds that go to a distinct Arlington school and each time I hear there's a lockdown or a college taking pictures, my coronary heart jumps into my throat," he mentioned.

Rasheed stated Thursday was the commencement day for sixth grade college students at Duff Elementary.

Whereas driving her son to high school within the morning, she had a chat with him about Uvalde and what to do if something ever happened at his college.

"If one thing happened, you’ve got to run anywhere that’s secure and conceal," she told her little one.

While some say the incident in Uvalde is just too fresh to speak politics, Mitchell stated something must be completed now. 

"They need to talk about it, they wish to campaign on it, they want to fundraiser on it, however they don’t want to actually pass any laws and do something," he added.
