Arlington police said Duff Elementary School was positioned on lockdown for a time Thursday after a dad or mum with a hid weapon had his gun by accident go off, hitting the mum or dad within the leg.

ARLINGTON, Texas - Arlington police said Duff Elementary Faculty was positioned on lockdown for a time Thursday after a guardian with a concealed weapon had his gun unintentionally go off, hitting the mother or father in the leg.

The school had early release and students have been released on the deliberate time of 12:10 p.m.

In response to police, the father or mother, recognized as 55-year-old Anthony White, dropped his gun and accidentally shot himself. His damage was not severe.

The school district said White was inside the constructing, near the lobby space, and never within the hallway near students when the gun went off.

Police and faculty officials mentioned there was no threat made and the father or mother did not have "malicious intent."

No students or workers have been injured. The mother or father was taken to an area hospital after being shot within the leg. 

Arlington Police Chief Al Jones said after White was launched from the hospital, he was arrested and charged with unlawful carrying of a weapon in prohibited places and discharge of a firearm in certain municipalities.

In the two days because the Uvalde mass college taking pictures, there have been five circumstances in North Texas associated to guns introduced to schools or threats made.

Arlington dad and mom stated their minds immediately considered the worst when they have been notified.

No dad or mum ever wants there to be a cause for them to get a textual content message saying their child's faculty is on lockdown.

But since this week's deadly shooting at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, they can not assist however assume the worst once they do.

Rasheed stated Thursday was the commencement day for sixth grade students at Duff Elementary.

While driving her son to school within the morning, she had a chat with him about Uvalde and what to do if one thing ever happened at his school.

"If one thing occurred, you’ve received to run anywhere that’s secure and hide," she told her youngster.

Whereas some say the incident in Uvalde is just too fresh to speak politics, Mitchell mentioned something must be executed now. 

"They want to discuss it, they need to marketing campaign on it, they wish to fundraiser on it, but they don’t want to really move any legal guidelines and do something," he added.
