A California district legal professional declined to file fees Tuesday towards former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson after he was recorded on video in a physical altercation with one other passenger on a JetBlue flight.
San Mateo County District Legal professional Steve Wagstaffe made the decision after having reviewed police stories and movies of the April 20 incident. Both the passenger, who has not been identified, and Tyson requested that no fees be filed.
"Yesterday afternoon the San Mateo County District Lawyer’s Workplace concluded its assessment of the case involving Mike Tyson at the San Francisco Airport on April 20, 2022 and the allegation that he committed a misdemeanor battery in opposition to another passenger on an airplane whereas ready at the terminal previous to departure," Wagstaffe mentioned in a press release.
"Our resolution is that we are going to not file any fees against Mr. Tyson primarily based on the circumstances surrounding the confrontation. These embrace the conduct of the victim leading as much as the incident, the interplay between Mr. Tyson and the victim, as well as the requests of each the victim and Mr. Tyson that no prices be filed on this case," Wagstaffe mentioned.
The case is now closed.
Cellphone video showed Tyson, 55, appearing to try to punch someone who was pushing him away. Representatives for Tyson said the person was harassing Tyson. The video didn't show what occurred before the altercation.
David Chesnoff, Richard Schonfeld and Martin Sabelli, attorneys for Tyson, responded to the choice to not file prices by thanking Wagstaffe, the San Mateo County sheriff and regulation enforcement businesses "for his or her cautious, diligent, and professional work."
