A California district attorney declined to file expenses Tuesday towards former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson after he was recorded on video in a bodily altercation with another passenger on a JetBlue flight.
San Mateo County District Lawyer Steve Wagstaffe made the choice after having reviewed police reviews and movies of the April 20 incident. Both the passenger, who has not been identified, and Tyson requested that no prices be filed.
"Yesterday afternoon the San Mateo County District Lawyer’s Office concluded its assessment of the case involving Mike Tyson on the San Francisco Airport on April 20, 2022 and the allegation that he dedicated a misdemeanor battery towards one other passenger on an airplane while ready on the terminal prior to departure," Wagstaffe said in a press release.
"Our resolution is that we'll not file any fees against Mr. Tyson based mostly on the circumstances surrounding the confrontation. These embrace the conduct of the sufferer leading as much as the incident, the interplay between Mr. Tyson and the sufferer, in addition to the requests of each the victim and Mr. Tyson that no fees be filed on this case," Wagstaffe mentioned.
The case is now closed.
Cellphone video confirmed Tyson, 55, appearing to try to punch somebody who was pushing him away. Representatives for Tyson stated the individual was harassing Tyson. The video did not present what happened before the altercation.
David Chesnoff, Richard Schonfeld and Martin Sabelli, attorneys for Tyson, responded to the decision to not file prices by thanking Wagstaffe, the San Mateo County sheriff and legislation enforcement agencies "for their cautious, diligent, and professional work."
