A fifth grade pupil in Florida was arrested over the weekend and charged with sending a textual content message threatening to carry out a mass shooting, authorities said.

In an announcement Saturday, the Lee County Sheriff’s Workplace mentioned it had learned earlier that day of a "threatening text message" sent by a pupil at an elementary college.

It said its local school threat enforcement team was immediately notified and began investigating. The ten-year-old boy was interviewed and charged later with "making a written menace to conduct a mass taking pictures," the sheriff's office mentioned.

In video shared by authorities, the boy can be seen being led right into a police car.

“This pupil’s behavior is sickening, particularly after the recent tragedy in Uvalde, Texas,” Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno stated in a press release, noting that the threat came just days after the lethal school taking pictures at Robb Elementary College left 19 students and two teachers dead.

“Proper now is just not the time to act like a bit delinquent. It’s not humorous,” he mentioned. “This baby made a fake risk, and now he’s experiencing actual penalties.”

Marceno said his workforce “didn’t hesitate one second...NOT ONE SECOND,” to investigate the incident.

The remark got here as authorities in Uvalde face mounting criticism over their response to the Could 24 faculty taking pictures after it got here to mild that they waited roughly an hour for backup instead of immediately shifting in on the gunman.
