A fifth grade scholar in Florida was arrested over the weekend and charged with sending a text message threatening to carry out a mass capturing, authorities said.

In an announcement Saturday, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office said it had realized earlier that day of a "threatening text message" despatched by a scholar at an elementary faculty.

It mentioned its native faculty threat enforcement crew was immediately notified and started investigating. The ten-year-old boy was interviewed and charged later with "making a written menace to conduct a mass taking pictures," the sheriff's office stated.

In video shared by authorities, the boy could be seen being led right into a police vehicle.

“This pupil’s conduct is sickening, especially after the latest tragedy in Uvalde, Texas,” Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno stated in an announcement, noting that the risk got here simply days after the lethal college shooting at Robb Elementary College left 19 college students and two academics dead.

“Right now is just not the time to behave like slightly delinquent. It’s not humorous,” he stated. “This little one made a pretend menace, and now he’s experiencing real penalties.”

Marceno stated his staff “didn’t hesitate one second...NOT ONE SECOND,” to research the incident.

The comment came as authorities in Uvalde face mounting criticism over their response to the May 24 school capturing after it came to light that they waited roughly an hour for backup instead of immediately shifting in on the gunman.
