A fifth grade scholar in Florida was arrested over the weekend and charged with sending a text message threatening to hold out a mass shooting, authorities stated.

In a statement Saturday, the Lee County Sheriff’s Workplace stated it had realized earlier that day of a "threatening text message" despatched by a scholar at an elementary college.

It said its native school risk enforcement group was immediately notified and began investigating. The 10-year-old boy was interviewed and charged later with "making a written threat to conduct a mass shooting," the sheriff's workplace mentioned.

In video shared by authorities, the boy may be seen being led into a police automobile.

“This student’s habits is sickening, especially after the current tragedy in Uvalde, Texas,” Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno said in a statement, noting that the menace came simply days after the lethal college shooting at Robb Elementary Faculty left 19 students and two teachers dead.

“Right now just isn't the time to act like a little delinquent. It’s not funny,” he mentioned. “This child made a fake risk, and now he’s experiencing real penalties.”

Marceno said his team “didn’t hesitate one second...NOT ONE SECOND,” to research the incident.
