Federal agents who went to Robb Elementary College in Uvalde, Texas, on Tuesday to confront a gunman who killed 19 kids were instructed by native police to attend and not enter the college — and then determined after about half an hour to ignore that initial guidance and discover the shooter, say two senior federal legislation enforcement officers.

In accordance with the officers, brokers from BORTAC, the Customs and Border Safety tactical unit, and ICE's Homeland Safety Investigations (HSI) arrived on the scene between noon and 12:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Local regulation enforcement asked them to wait, after which instructed HSI agents to assist pull children out of the windows.
