Apple has discontinued the iPod, 20 years after it was released.

The US tech giant mentioned its iconic music player has been changed by different units, making the iPod redundant.

Greg Joswiak, Apple's senior vice-president of worldwide advertising, stated: "Right this moment, the spirit of iPod lives on.

"We've built-in an unbelievable music expertise throughout all of our merchandise, from the iPhone to the Apple Watch to HomePod mini, and across Mac, iPad, and Apple TV.

"And Apple Music delivers industry-leading sound high quality with assist for spatial audio - there isn't any higher way to enjoy, uncover, and expertise music."

In October 2001, Steve Jobs debuted the unique iPod and it was the primary MP3 participant that might hold 1,000 songs and had a 10-hour battery life.

"With iPod, Apple has invented a whole new class of digital music participant that permits you to put your complete music assortment in your pocket and take heed to it wherever you go," he stated at the time.

"With iPod, listening to music will never be the identical once more."

Comparable MP3 players released by Microsoft and Sony did not have the same success because the iPod.

Apple has launched five variations of its music participant - the Classic, Touch, Shuffle, Mini and Nano.

The company has been slowly killing its iPod range lately, with mobile phone expertise enabling customers to hearken to music services on their telephones.

In 2014, the traditional click on wheel mannequin was discontinued, and the Shuffle and Nano were killed off three years later.

The seventh-generation iPod contact was the only mannequin still on sale immediately.

With out the iPod, there would never have been an iPhone or iPod, based on its inventor Tony Fadell.
