Apple has discontinued the iPod, 20 years after it was released.

The US tech giant said its iconic music participant has been replaced by other units, making the iPod redundant.

Greg Joswiak, Apple's senior vice-president of worldwide advertising and marketing, stated: "As we speak, the spirit of iPod lives on.

"We have built-in an incredible music experience throughout all of our products, from the iPhone to the Apple Watch to HomePod mini, and throughout Mac, iPad, and Apple TV.

"And Apple Music delivers industry-leading sound quality with help for spatial audio - there is no higher option to take pleasure in, discover, and expertise music."

In October 2001, Steve Jobs debuted the original iPod and it was the first MP3 participant that could maintain 1,000 songs and had a 10-hour battery life.

"With iPod, Apple has invented a whole new category of digital music player that lets you put your entire music collection in your pocket and listen to it wherever you go," he said on the time.

"With iPod, listening to music won't ever be the same once more."

Related MP3 gamers released by Microsoft and Sony didn't have the same success because the iPod.

Apple has launched 5 variations of its music player - the Basic, Touch, Shuffle, Mini and Nano.

The corporate has been slowly killing its iPod vary in recent years, with cell phone know-how enabling clients to listen to music companies on their phones.

In 2014, the basic click wheel model was discontinued, and the Shuffle and Nano had been killed off three years later.
